Signs You Need Water Line Replacement in North Idaho

Your water service line runs underground from the meter (or curb stop) to your home. When it leaks or corrodes, you can lose pressure, waste thousands of gallons, and damage landscaping, sometimes for months before anyone notices.

Low water pressure throughout the house is one of the first clues. If every faucet feels weak and you have ruled out a clogged aerator or failing well pump, the underground service may be restricted by corrosion or partially collapsed.

Unexplained high water bills with no visible indoor leak often mean water is escaping underground. A wet or soggy patch in the yard along the line path, especially in dry weather, is another red flag. Sunken soil or greener grass strips can mark the leak route.

Discolored water or sediment after the line is disturbed can point to aging galvanized pipe or a break letting dirt into the system. Older North Idaho homes still have metal service lines that fail as freeze-thaw cycles and soil movement stress the joints.

Spot repairs can work when damage is localized. Widespread corrosion, multiple leaks, or outdated materials usually make full replacement the better long-term investment. We pressure-test and inspect before recommending repair versus replace.

Replacement typically runs from the meter to the home's main shutoff. Depth, length, landscaping, and driveway crossings affect timeline and cost. Most residential jobs finish in one to two days. We dig only what is needed and restore trenches as cleanly as the site allows.

If you are already planning sewer line work, ask us to look at the water line at the same time. Coordinating underground utilities can save a second excavation and give you a clearer picture of everything under the yard.

New construction and additions also need properly sized water service. Undersized lines choke modern fixture counts and tankless water heaters. We install meter-to-home services that meet current code and future demand.
